PUBLICATION – Tanzania – 17 June 2024

This learning brief shares best practices and recommendations for supporting an accountable, transparent, and well-governed extractive sector in Tanzania. It highlights the challenges faced by local communities in areas of mining operations and emphasizes the need for sustainable socio-economic growth and environmental sustainability in the extractive industry. The document provides recommendations for various stakeholders, including government, mining companies, civil society organizations, and communities, to promote responsible mining practices, support marginalized groups, enhance corporate social responsibility, and strengthen referral pathways for communities to access justice.

The learning brief is a result from our experiences in the COLLECTIVE ACTION FOR RIGHTS REALIZATION (CLARITY) project, that was implemented by VSO, Lawyers’ Environmental Action Team (LEAT) and the Tanzania Women Chamber of Commerce  (TWCC) from 2020-2023, with support from the European Union.
